Our Mission

Berkeley Guardians was created to nurture children who come to the UK to learn and be educated, in order for them to have a positive experience and one they will treasure over the years.

We know how we would want our children cared for in this situation and therefore aim to do the same for your children. Working together we are able to offer unique opportunities for your children e.g. UCAS support from beginning to end, internships for business experience etc.

We will go that extra mile and offer the personal touch to support you and your child in this new and exciting chapter of their lives, shaping them for the future and giving them a far greater understanding of the world.

~ Statement ~

Berkeley Guardians endeavours to provide a secure, supportive, friendly and caring environment where all members of the community are respected by others. Berkeley Guardians is fully committed to safeguarding the welfare of all children and young people, regardless of gender, ethnicity, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or religion.

Berkeley Guardians promotes active communication between university, school, children, young people, parents/carers with the aim to ensure that there is complete transparency and that we do so to endorse our caring and compassionate values to each and every child and young person so as to ensure they feel a sense of worth and belonging.

Karen Pickles

International pastoral care and education management

I have over 14 years experience as a Senior Boarding Housemistress at Clifton College (one of the country’s leading independent co educational day and boarding schools, for 3 – 18 year olds) on a pastoral, academic and welfare management level and have 20+ years’ teaching experience from 4 – 18 years.  I have worked closely with international students from many countries and continents and it has been a privilege to learn about their lives and cultures and to still be in touch with many of them.  This strong and professional relationship has ensured I have an extensive understanding of the needs of international students and the need to ensure they have a ‘home from home’ experience with comforts and support whilst they are in the UK.

Host family accommodation, international projects & internship opportunities

I have over 12 years of dedicated experience working and supporting international young people, ensuring they have a valuable life experience whilst in my care. I have extensive experience in profile matching the needs and aspirations of young people to high quality work experience and internship programmes. I match this with my commitment to providing each young person with the mentoring they need to thrive.  I have managed high-quality host family accommodation to ensure a safe and nurturing environment for young people to feel comfortable and secure. I have coordinated several European projects involving individuals to large groups of international students, thus enabling me to have the understanding of different cultures and needs for young people.

Based in Bristol

Bristol has two universities – the traditional University of Bristol and the newer, but highly acclaimed, University of the West of England.  Both offer an enormous range of courses at a high level and can be accessed through the UCAS application service.

If you are sight-seeing in Bristol, the choice is vast.  Whether on the water front, discovering the old centre of the city, the village suburbs or the eclectic mix of shops and cafes. Bristol Zoo where the conservation work is world-renowned. The museums, the Bristol Aquarium or the science exploration at We Are Curious. On the sporting front, Bristol City football and Bristol Rugby or Gloucestershire County cricket club are all accessible.

Why use an Educational Guardianship?

Most well established require all young people coming into the United Kingdom to have a guardian who will be there to care for that child when required. This guardian is in addition to the school you choose for your son/daughter and will ensure that there is pastoral and welfare care offered outside of the school terms, in the exeats and at weekends as required.
